BCBSA encourages and supports increasing the knowledge, skills and abilities of employees in order to improve their current performance and to prepare them to achieve their development goals. We provide resources designed to encourage employees to pursue internal and external educational opportunities that will facilitate increased work competence and enhance their career and personal growth.

Performance Management Process (PMP)

PMP is an ongoing process that requires managers to work together with their staff to ensure that individual performance contributes to the achievement of department, division, and, ultimately, the BCBSA’s goals. PMP achieves to accomplish the following results:

  1. The contribution/potential of each employee is maximized.
  2. The distribution of rewards/recognition for performance is appropriate.
  3. An employee’s performance needs are addressed.
  4. Expected results are achieved.

Internal Job Posting Program

BCBSA encourages employees to visit our internal job postings regularly for career enhancement opportunities. Almost 25% of our posted positions are filled through internal transfers or promotions annually.

Tuition Reimbursement

BCBSA encourages employees to pursue educational opportunities that provide professional benefit. The Tuition Reimbursement Program provides reimbursement of 80% of the approved job-related expenses related to the continuing education of eligible employees. In addition, we have included an in house MBA program for individuals that are interested in pursuing.

Training and Development

BCBSA helps employees acquire the skills, knowledge and behavior to improve their ability to meet the challenges of their current and future jobs, as well as to assist them in their personal and professional growth. Services in this area include:

  • Employee and management development programs;
  • Personal development solutions based on employee needs and/or development goals;
  • Mentoring Program;
  • Customized training programs for teams and workgroups; and
  • The Academy for Healthcare Management (AHM) educational programs.
